The Promenade des Anglais: The Birth of the Riviera in Nice

A symbol of Nice, the Promenade des Anglais owes its name to the British colony that came to spend the winter on the Riviera in the 19th century.

An initiative of the English winter

In the early 19th century, British winter visitors had a path built along the sea to provide work for the people of Nice. This "English path" was later widened and landscaped, becoming the Promenade des Anglais.

Belle Époque and villas on the hills

Grand hotels, villas and gardens multiplied on the Riviera. The hills, such as Mont-Boron, appealed for their calm and their sea views.

Mont-Boron, home to the Le Vert Boron apartment, overlooks the Old Port about ten minutes from Old Nice: an ideal starting point for exploring these historic places.
